“With the 4th of July being on a Wednesday this year, we decided to do something special for fans and race teams on the night before. People can come out and see the best dirt track racing in the area, and enjoy a fun evening of family excitement. We are expecting many outsiders to attempt to qualify for the event. $1,000 is posted for the winner, with a healthy purse all the way down through the field. Since we are expecting a large field of teams to enter the event, we have also put aside money for a “B” feature if necessary, stated General Manager, Dick Therrien. This is one event you will not want to miss!”

1/7/12 GRANITE STATE MINI-SPRINTS WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO CANAAN DIRT SPEEDWAY IN 2012
A long term relationship between the Granite State Mini-Sprints and Canaan Fair Speedway has come to an end due to a dispute between the leadership of the traveling club and Canaan Speedway General Manager, Dick Therrien.
“The problem lies because of the split between the Granite State Mini-Sprint Series 600c.c. racers two years ago stated Therrien. There are now two quality organizations, the newest being the Northeast Mini-Sprints 600c.c. class. As a promoter there are only so many dates that you can devote to Mini-Sprint racing in the season. I chose to give the groups six combined dates, and each one a stand alone event. The Northeast Mini-Sprints promoter, Terry Reil was very satisfied with the schedule and I thought GSMS President, Dean Hanson was as well as we posted our schedule. The Granite State 500 c.c. cars would run under that title and the 600c.c. would run under the N.E.M.S. banner. All of a sudden I got a call from a Granite State club member complaining and making threats about their club pulling out and talking trash about the other clubs members, and how many people he brought into my pits. I refused to budge on the plan, and soon after I received a call from Dean Hanson stating Terry Reil hadn’t contacted them with information needed for their next meeting. Reil was gone for two weeks on a hunting trip and was unavailable. Next thing I know Hanson called back and stated his guys voted to not return to Canaan in 2012. He was told by me that if they leave, they won’t be coming back as long as I am here, and he said that’s what the club has voted. So the result is that the Granite State Mini-Sprints have been removed from the schedule. The Northeast Mini-Sprints will fill the void left by the departure of the Granite State Mini-Sprints for 2012 season and beyond at Canaan Dirt Speedway. It’s very sad that it came to this, but as promoters we try to look at what is best for our facility and the plan we laid out was the best for both worlds. Track owners Chick and Sandy Henry support this decision whole heartedly, and are also disappointed about the situation.

1/5/12 CANAAN DIRT THE PLACE TO RACE IN 2012
Canaan Dirt Speedway in Canaan, New Hampshire is gearing up for an exciting 2012 racing season on the super sleek ¼ mile, clay facility. The season is set to open up in early May, and end their season on the second week in September.
Leading the way once again will be the Sportsman Modifieds with a huge field expected in 2012. Randy Howe, 2011 champion, will have his hands full defending his title as a host of veterans and rookie drivers will be pounding on the door. “There is a huge influx of Modified teams heading to Canaan this season, stated General Manager, Dick Therrien. It seems like everyone and their brother are looking to purchase or have purchased a Mod! People are saying that we could see twenty to twenty-five Mods running weekly!”
The Super Street class is also experiencing some solid growth, as several cars have changed hands in the off-season. There also will be a female competitor or two in this class in 2012.
The Late Model class that emerged from the ashes in 2011, will be looking to pick up some more cars as they hope to grow again this season. Robbie Williams has already purchased a new car for 2012, and is hoping to carry his 2011 momentum to challenge some of the big dogs in 2012.
The four cylinder Bandit class has been dropped from the divisional ranks for 2012, but all cars are eligible to race in the Bomber Enduro class. The Bombers will race a few more times than they did in 2011, and will continue to put on an exciting show for the fans.
The heavy footed ScoNE, Sprint Car of New England, 360 Sprint Cars will be making five appearances in 2012. 2011 track champion, Dan Douville will be back on the Tour in 2012, trying to defend his title against the likes of Chris Donnelly and Kevin Chaffee. It appears that their fields are swelling as well.
Finally, the Northeast Mini-Sprints will be taking the place of the Granite State Mini-Sprints and be the big dawgs in town this year. Terry Reil, Tim Beard and a host of others will be leading the way in 2012.

11/14/11 DIRT BANDITS BEING DROPPED FROM 2012 RACING SCHEDULE ON CANAAN DIRT
Canaan Dirt Speedway Management has made the decision to drop the four cylinder Bandit class on the dirt track for the 2012 racing season.
General Manager, Dick Therrien, cited numerous reasons for the change, with the biggest reason being the lack of growth in the division over the past three racing seasons. “This decision was not an easy one, but with car counts hovering between five and seven cars a week, and no signs of any growth in 2011, The Henry’s and myself feel that it is in best interest of the Track to go in a different direction in 2012. We tried many different things and none seemed to make any change at all, in fact several of our top drivers sat out the extended purse race at the end of the season, so it appears that money is not the reason, mainly just a lack of interest” stated Therrien.
The best part of this change is that all cars from this class can race in the Bomber Enduro Division. The cars will just have to go back to stock wheels, and make a camber adjustment. The Bombers were introduced in 2011 and really fit right in with our future plans. Car counts were steady and they soon became a fan favorite. More races will be added to the Bomber schedule in 2012, and the Bombers will now see the top ten finishers paid instead of just the top six. The Bombers are allowed to run their choice of four, six, or eight cylinder vehicles including cars, vans, pickup trucks and more.
The 2012 rules packages for all divisions will be posted in early December, with minimal changes scheduled for most classes.

11/8/11 CANAAN DIRT BANQUET HELD, SCARBOROUGH WINS NEW CRATE ENGINE
The 2011 season officially ended for the Canaan Dirt Speedway on
Friday, November 4th, as the annual Banquet of Champions was held
at the Canaan Hall on the grounds of the Speedway.
Close to $17,000 in cash, prizes and awards were passed out to the competitors of the Northeast Waste Services and Residence Inn weekly racing series. Leading the way, and carrying home the big check of the night was Randy Howe, as he collected the $1,500 first place prize in the Papa Z’s Modified division. Tom Forward claimed the Subway Triple Crown Series for Modifieds title. Other champions included Allan Hammond in the Mirror Lake Rod & Custom Late Models. Ryan Christian won the Beard Sewer and Drain Super Street crown. Matt Boucher grabbed the Bond Auto Parts Bandit championship, while AJ Vick claimed the NAPA Bombers top award. Also picking up a championship award was Dan Douville for the ScoNE 360 Sprint Car organization.
Thanks to LinMat for the photos!
The highlight of the night was the drawing for the brand new crate engine courtesy of Miller Auto of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and sealed by RPM Engines of Georgia, Vermont. The prize was done in a lottery fashion with the top ten in Modified points eligible for the drawing, and points champion Randy Howe had two chips in the cup. An additional huge prize was awarded to the first driver eliminated by the draw, as Allan Hammond donated a brand new Modified body for the first driver eliminated. The first chip pulled was bearing the number of Travis Shinn, no motor, but a free body. One by one drivers fell by the wayside until Howe, Jason Sanville and 14 year old Mod racer, Joey Scarborough. Howe was the first to go, leaving Sanville and Scarborough with a chance to win it all. The last chip to be pulled was that of Jason Sanville thus leaving Scarborough with the lone chip left in the cup, and the winner of the brand new engine.
